 We received a seed money grant from Worshipful-Work to renew and revitalize the School for Discernmentarians. The school is a training program in the process of spiritual discernment. We are developed a new curriculum and expanded the program to 2 -- week long sessions in 2006 The first week focuses on individual spiritual discernment and teaches how to process decision making through discerning God's will. The second week focuses on corporate discernment which allows churches to listen for God's directions. Week one is suggested before participation in week two, but it is not a pre-requisite. In will be adding 2 additional coursesin the future. The following is a description of the four courses:
Personal Spiritual Discernment
This week is geared to learning the process of discernment as an individual. The focus is on each person's own journey. The curriculum is aimed toward teaching each participant to explore the process of discernment in his or her own decision making. Corporate Spiritual Discernment
This week is geared toward teaching church leaders how to utilize the discernment process in his or her church. The focus is on pastoral leadership and corporate discernment. The curriculum is aimed toward teaching the pastors to place God in the center of the process while listening to the members and lay leaders of the church as they seek to decide the direction of their church's ministry. The curriculum also helps to establish a Spirit of Discernment as habitual in the church. Individual Spiritual Discernment in Spiritual Direction
This week is geared toward teaching Spiritual Directors how to incorporate the discernment process into spiritual direction. More emphasis on the spiritual disciplines, and on exploring images for God and the impact that has on how discernment happens will be part of the training. The curriculum will include a weaving of spiritual direction resources into the discernment process. Advanced Training in the Corporate Discernment Process
This week is geared toward teaching others how to lead the discernment process in their own setting. This week will be marketed to those who have completed the first two weeks and who are interested in training others in how to do discernment. The curriculum will include more emphasis on the underpinnings of Bible, theology and Christology, and the Confessions of the Church.
